The St Andrew’s Ball is a highlight of the St Andrews and Caledonian Society of Vancouver calendar – an evening of tradition, elegance, and community. The first St. Andrew’s ball and supper in the City of Vancouver was held on November 30th 1887 at the McDonough Hall, on the south-east corner of Hastings and Columbia Streets and was reported to have been “without question, the most brilliant affair in the history of the city”. A newspaper report declared there were between 350 and 400 guests present, and the City’s population then numbered about 1,000.
