WORKSHOP TEACHERS
Louise McGillivray began her ‘dancing career’ as a Highland dancer and teacher. But as soon as she was exposed to Scottish Country Dancing, she was hooked! She obtained her full teacher’s certificate in 1980. Louise taught for the Edmonton Caledonian group for many years, first as the teacher of adult beginners (her favourite) and then the demonstration team. In 1995 she started the very successful children’s (and then youth) programme in Edmonton. She has taught several workshops in western Canada including Calgary, Winnipeg and Yellowknife. After retiring from her job, she began living half time in Victoria, then in 2023 moved there full time. Louise has had the pleasure of teaching with the Vancouver Island Scottish Country Dance Society for the past nine years
Kay Sutherland began dancing in elementary school in Scotland as part of the Phys Ed program. After a gap when she first came to Canada, Kay resumed dancing when Dorothy Hargreaves started a class in Deep Cove in 1986 and began teaching at the class in 2007. Currently, Kay teaches the North Shore ‘Dance Scottish’ class. She has been the director of the Vancouver Branch Demonstration Team (Strictly Scottish) since 2016. Kay is a CTI trainer and RSCDS tutor responsible for training new teachers … and she loves Scottish Country Dance and music.
