Choosing Your Level for the workshop:          It may help to discuss your class level with your teacher.

Basic: Previous attendance at RSCDS dance lessons (or classes) is essential. This class will focus on basic steps and the most popular formations, helping you improve your dancing and giving you the skills to learn new dances more easily. Some previous attendance at Scottish Country Dance classes is essential. In this class you will have fun learning the “moves”

Intermediate: Dancers must be able to dance all the basic steps and formations confidently. This class will work on increasing your awareness of team work, handing, phrasing, and covering as well as expanding your repertoire, enabling you to dance more complicated dances.

Dancers may be reassigned at the discretion of teaching staff.
Dancers under 16 years of age accepted only with special permission.

WORKSHOP TEACHERS

GORDON ROBINSON
Gordon started dancing in Yellowknife, NWT in 1995 after his wife, June, was introduced to Scottish Country Dancing at a Girl Guide event. Currently, he teaches various classes in Victoria and has taught at workshops across Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest. Gordon is on the executive of TAC (Scottish Country Dance Teachers’ Association).

ALISON MOEN
Alison has a long history with Scottish Country Dancing. She has memories of being taken by her mother to Dancing in the Park at age 6. Now Alison is teaching dance at the Deep Cove and Gleneagles clubs. She coordinates Dancing in the Park as well as dancing with the Vancouver Demonstration Team. You will also find Alison calling dances at the Friday night Ceilidhs at the Scottish Cultural Centre.

CLASS MUSICIANS

Cathrine Conings – Piano
Besides teaching dance at the Burnaby and Kerrisdale clubs, Cathrine plays piano with the Vancouver Fiddle Orchestra as well as the ceilidh group ‘Calanais’.  Many thanks once again Cathrine for being one of our musicians for this.

Lukasz Wieczorek – Fiddle
Lukasz has been playing for various Scottish Country Dance events in Vancouver since 2012. He also plays viola in the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra as well as the West Coast Symphony. So glad to have Lukasz play for us again.

Mary Ross – Accordion

DANCE MUSICIAN

MARY ROSS
Thank you, Vancouver Branch for the invitation to be your musician for the 2024 Love to Dance. It is wonderful to have dancing, music and socializing back in our lives. I look forward to preparing the music, working with the teachers, and honing my skills as a musician and a dancer. Many RSCDS milestones and celebrations have kept me busy in 2023, playing in Winnipeg, Lethbridge, Edmonton and Vernon, as well as playing locally at socials and dance classes for Van Isle RSCDS. With my involvement in the Alberta Accordion Festival, Oktoberfests, Highland Games, Robert Burns, accordion students and my activities with the Victoria Accordion Club, life is busy and interesting.
